The Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) is a sub-committee of the Community Alliance for Prevention composed of a diverse group of local high school students. YAC members work to reduce youth substance use by helping to guide the Power of Choice high school campaign, creating social media content, and directing 360 YS’s programming for SAMHSA’s National Prevention Week. By being part of YAC, students are able to develop their leadership and school engagement skills to make a positive impact on their community.
YAC welcomes all high school students in Districts 203 and 204 to join YAC, attend their monthly meetings, and participate in other programming throughout the school year.

The 6th-8th Grade Power of Choice Committee helps guide both the student and parent campaigns. The committee meets every other month and is comprised of representatives from every D204 middle school and D203 junior high, as well as vested community members and parents. A parent member’s responsibilities include: attending meetings, acting as a representative of community parents, giving feedback on current campaign efforts, and developing new initiatives and materials.
All parents of 6th-8th graders in our community are welcome to request to join the Power of Choice Committee.

The Power of Choice 6th-8th Grade Parent Campaign conducts focus groups to collect initial feedback on theme ideas for the next year’s campaign from parents. Scheduled for the late spring, each group spends about an hour reviewing and giving input on potential future themes.

The 6th-8th Grade Power of Choice and the High School Committees help guide both the student and parent campaigns. The committees are composed of representatives from every D203/204 middle school/junior high, and high school, as well as vested community members and parents. These representatives are school counselors, vice principals, school social workers, psychologists, and more. A school representative’s responsibilities include attending bi-monthly meetings, discussing trends noticed at school, providing feedback on current campaign efforts, developing new initiatives and materials, hanging up school posters, and promoting campaign materials.
All D203 and D204 staff are welcome to request to join the Power of Choice Committees.
